As we celebrate Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, it's natural to reflect on the vision, courage, and leadership of those who helped launch the American experiment.

But the Declaration was never intended to be the end of the story. It was a beginning.

Every generation inherits the responsibility to strengthen, improve, and carry that work forward. And every generation must prepare the leaders who will do the same.

This week's episode of Community Catalysts features Sarah Jakle, founder of DemocraShe, a nonprofit organization helping young women develop the confidence, resilience, and civic skills to become active participants in public life and future community leaders.

One of the themes that runs throughout our conversation is that leadership begins long before someone receives a title. It begins when people feel seen, heard, valued, and encouraged to believe that their voice matters.

As local leaders, we spend much of our time focused on today's challenges. Sarah offers a timely reminder that one of our most important responsibilities is helping prepare the people who will inherit those challenges tomorrow.
